Rapido!® A 14-Day Composition Contest was founded by the Atlanta Chamber Players & The Antinori Foundation in 2009 to promote new chamber music compositions. The Rapido Contest challenges composers of all ages to submit an original chamber work of 4-6 minutes composed in just 14 days: musical form and instrumentation are specified. 15 Semi-Finalist works compete at regional concerts, followed by a National Finals Concert with 5 Finalists competing. First prize includes a $5,000 Commission - to expand the winning work for premiere performance by partner ensembles in five US cities the following season and - capping the Rapido contest! - to compose a work for symphony orchestra to be premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra!
Registration for the Rapido! Cycle Five!! begins soon and the composition period will be 14 days in June 2017.
The five Rapido chamber ensembles will perform Semi-Finalist works in concerts in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Detroit & San Francisco in Fall 2017 when Finalists will be announced and prizes awarded. The National Finals Concert will be presented in Atlanta January 21, 2017 when the National Winner will be chosen. The Audience Favorite Prize will be decided by national internet voting and awarded at the Finals Concert. The First Prize Commission chamber ensemble work of 14-18 minutes is to be delivered to the Atlanta Chamber Players by August 15, 2018 for premiere performance by the Atlanta Chamber Players, Boston Musica Viva, Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, Voices of Change and Left Coast Chamber Ensemble during the 2018-2019 concert season.
